Heh, my nephew left a book of his at my house a few weeks ago called Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. I ended up flicking through it out of curiousity, and before I knew it I'd finished reading the whole thing in a day, called in sick to the store I work part-time at and bought the rest of the series. It's ridiculously funny without sacrificing the plot, and the characters and story actually really drew me in. A kid-ish/YA series I'd definitely reccomend :')

I will second those who've mentioned the following: Morganville series by Rachel Caine (it is darker than most YA out there, IMHO) Kelley Armstrong's YA series (first trilogy is complete, second trilogy I think comes out early 2011, but check Kelley's website...) Richelle Mead's VA series (holy crap is all I can say to that...LOVE IT) I also like PC and Kristin Cast's House of Night series. I think there are 2 more planned in that series. Also, Jenna Black's new YA series, which starts with Glimmerglass. Not sure when 2nd book is due out, though .

Shadowspell is due out 4th Jan and I can't wait for it! Glimmerglass was awesome!
I've recently just read the first two books in the Iron Fey trilogy by Julie Kagawa, The Iron King and The Iron Daughter, both of which I really enjoyed. Really looking forward to the final one, The Iron Queen, next year.

One that i have yet to read (which my friends are all berating me for) is The Hunger Games and it's sequel, Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins. It has been getting rave reviews and a lot of attention- it's on my reading list. ETA: I can't believe I forgot!! "Thirteen Reason's Why" is one of my absolute favorites! It's about a teenage boy who receives a set of cassette tapes in the mail two weeks after a classmate commits suicide; the cassette tapes sort of function as a suicide note. And I will stop there because I don't want to spoil anyone. Ok.. I know this is so last year.. but. I AGREED on Suzanne Collins's book.. AMAZING, DARK and WONDERFUL series! If you like "Thirteen Reason's Why", you should read "HATE LIST" by Jennifer Brown. Relating to shoot outs in school. This book had me crying from chapter 1 to the end.. I also love Jennifer Echols "Going too Far".

Shadowspell is due out 4th Jan and I can't wait for it! Glimmerglass was awesome! OMG I loved Jenna's new YA. Did you see the cover for Shadowspell? Amazing! Has anyone read Fallen by Lauren Kate? I really liked it and Torment (sequel) was released today. What about The Hollow by Jessica Verday? I meant to read it before I left for vacation, but didn't get to it. My friend (who I'm borrowing book from) and her daughter really liked it and I know the 2nd book in series is already out. Just wanted to hear thoughts if anyone has read it

I did see the Shadowspell cover!! It's stunning!!
Haven't read The Hollow, read Fallen though. Wasn't too impressed, found it kind of dull and the only bit I really liked was the epilogue. Debating if I can be bothered with book 2.
Just read Angel by LA Weatherly this weekend, first in a new trilogy about some very different angels, and I totally loved it. Can't wait for the other two books.
