Are there any readers on here that are fans of young adult?
I have to admit that the only thing that I've read that fits that description are the Harry Potter books, which I absolutely love.
Any suggestions? I prefer the darker stuff.
I have Melissa Marr's books and I have Kim Harrison's newest Once Dead, Twice Shy. I am also going to pick up Rachel Vincen'ts Soul Screamers series. I hope to sneak in some reading this fall after book 5 is done.
Any suggestions? Anyone read the James Patterson YA books?
thanks

one that is same category as HP is Percy Jackson and the Olympians ... awesome series about a kid who finds out that all the weird stuff in his life isn't his fault alone, but because he's the son of a Greek god.
Kelley Armstrong's YA series is AWESOME!!! actually, anything by Kelley will have me drooling.
when you get done with all those, let me know ... I can find something for just about anyone.

I love Kim Harrison and Kelley Armstrong's young adult. But I have to say if you like dark, one of the best ones I have read is "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins[/b]. I still find my self thinking about it. Can't wait for the 2nd one in September

One that i have yet to read (which my friends are all berating me for) is The Hunger Games and it's sequel, Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins. It has been getting rave reviews and a lot of attention- it's on my reading list. Only problem is that all 32 copies in my county's library system are checked out, with almost 40 people ahead of me on the waiting list. So i'm going to try and figure out another way to read it lol.
Neil Gaiman is another great author. I've only read The Graveyard Book by him, but he did a video tour awhile back where he would read a chapter and have it videotaped at stops on his tour, and then post it online somewhere. I'll try to find the link for you- I love how he read it! (and i'm not a huge fan of audiobooks)
My all-time favorite author is actually a YA author, and her name is Tamora Pierce. She's known for her strong female characters. My favorite book by her is Terrier in the Beka Cooper series, followed by Bloodhound in the same series. She's been publishing for a long time so she has a huge booklist. I think the Circle series is more your type than the books set in Tortall.
A YA author I recently discovered is Maria V. Snyder. Her fantasy series, the Study series, hooked me from the first chapter and I went out and bought the second book the next day. I've refrained from reading it b/c I want to pace myself- the bookstore didn't have the third book. But it's a wonderful series with magic and character development and some romance too.
Paper Towns by John Green is a pretty good book. He's not a fantasy author, but writes young adult fiction and is a huge presence on the internet (especially youtube). He and his brother have a vlog project that made them famous, but Paper Towns is a great book. It's all about imagining people complexly. Sounds kinda weird and offputting at first, but it's a fun book to read.
I also want to read Once Dead, Twice Shy (Kim Harrison) and start Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamer's series. I don't have the $$ to purchase them, unfortunately, so I am going to request them from my library and hope that they will find me a copy from somewhere!
And considering I work for a Harry Potter website, i am OBLIGATED to mention the series even though you all have read them already lol.
ETA: I can't believe I forgot!! "Thirteen Reason's Why" is one of my absolute favorites! It's about a teenage boy who receives a set of cassette tapes in the mail two weeks after a classmate commits suicide; the cassette tapes sort of function as a suicide note. And I will stop there because I don't want to spoil anyone.

I've been wanting to read 13 reasons, but I just haven't had the chance to lately, and now I'm so not on a reading kick, so it'll be a while again before I do (I still haven't even finished Unbound and I've had it since release day)

I can't read '13 reasons why', i'm too 'fragile' too read a book so depressing right now. I'm sure it's a great book, but i don't want to end up with a panic attack.
FreedomStar i've read Once Dead Twice Shy and i loved it. It's no surprise since it's from the amazing Kim Harrison, i'll be waiting for the sequel!! I've heard a lot about the Hunger Game i've yet to reat it. Of course i've read and reread every Harry Potter books =D I'm still amazed when i meet readers who haven't read any Harry Potter yet =P
I've just learned that there will be a book 4 in the trilogy (yes i see the irony of it) by Cassandra Clare 'the Mortal Instruments', it's called 'City of fallen angels' I'll read it that's for sure, i had a great time reading this trilogy.

I cannot believe I forgot to add this author too, lol. One of THE most well-written YA series, I think, is the Tomorrow series by John Marsden. It starts with "Tomorrow When the War Began" and it spans 7 books. The series follows a group of teenagers, told from the POV of one of the girls, and how they go camping in the australian bush and return to their homes after a weeklong trip to find that their country has been invaded. The series is all about how they try to survive on the outskirts, hiding from the enemy and doing what they can to fight back. AMAZING series, truly inspirational. The books are a bit hard to find in the U.S. because he is an Australian author but you can ask your bookstore to order them for you. They are truly well worth the time it takes to get the books and read them.

I'm reading a YA book which is making me cry... i guess it touched a sore point or something. It's The Hollow by Jessica Verday. This is the 1st book in a trilogy. I haven't finished it yet, but i loved it so far. Abbey the main character is haunted by her best friend's death

Another series I've been HOOKED and recommending to everyone is the Study series and the one that follows, the Glass series, both by Maria V. Snyder. They are great for all ages- kinda like Harry Potter in that way! The Study series is currently being re-released with YA covers, as the first release of the series was adult paperback. They are straight fantasy series and pretty awesome. The first book, Poison Study, follows Yelena who accepts a deal to become the Commander's food taster on the morning she is to be executed. The rest of the series follows her as she overcomes her lingering fears from her past and stop corrupt magicians from seizing power and starting a war.
The second series follows a character we meet in the Study series.
In order: Study series: Poison Study Magic Study Fire Study
Glass series: Storm Glass Sea Glass
Pattepoilue, I heard about that! I also heard the books have been optioned for films!
