well then ... I'm just gonna start chattering ... I got my hands on an ARC of Jim Butcher's Turn Coat and have been reading it and absolutely love it ... which is amazing cause I've read the first 3-4 books in the series, but I haven't had time to read any of the others yet, and then this showed up at the bookstore I work at, so I snagged it, and it's still pretty relevant even though I haven't read the 8 or so books in between where I left off and now. definitely makes me want to go back and read those other books ... it's on the agenda somewhere.

I am so far behind on the books in the Dresden series. I love Jim Butcher, but I just haven't had the time to read him. It's rather depressing.
But on the brightside, he's coming to town in mid-April and I'm going to get to see him!!!! I'm going to get the latest hardback signed. I hope I don't go totally fan-girl on him.

I have to admit that I never went to an author signing until I started the long process of trying to get published. It never occurred to me that authors actually left their homes and went to bookstores where they signed books. To me, authors were these great mythical creatures that sat behind desks in ivory towers and typed out these magical manuscripts that their editor loved.
Then I tried to get published and I met some amazing authors that I am now good friends with. I realized some important things:
There are no ivory towers Manuscipts are not magical, but ugly beasts that must be tamed Editors don't love your work until the edits are done to their liking Despite looming deadline, the laundry still needs to be done and the bathrooms cleaned.

My reading habits were odd as they developed ... started with kids books and stayed with the 8-13 yr old range books for a long time, then moved from up north to the detroit area and discovered manga (japanese graphic novels) and stuck with those for a little while until a friend turned me onto LKH, which I devoured and moved on to other authors in the UF genre. but the manga usually had some kind of scifi tilt to it.
my writing habits were about the same ... stories about kids and horses when I was younger, fanfiction about the anime and manga with increasing numbers of original characters and then writing my own stories with my own characters ... still working on those. when I get something done that I like and my beta's can't add anymore to them and then we'll see about that whole publishing thing.
as for actual signings, I don't think I'd really realized that sort of thing happened until I got a job in a book store and actually had authors come in. but that was spectacularly awesome.

Imagine me dancing around like a complete idiot. Yes, that it my mood today because last night I got the chance to meet the Amazing Jim Butcher. He is just so cool. He did a Q&A session, which was very funny.
I got my book signed and introduced myself. He had heard of me! Sigh. I was completely speechless for about 2 seconds and almost fell into fangirl babbling, but I recovered and thanked him for all his wonderful work in the Urban Fantasy genre.
So, yes, I am still in fangirl heaven. Read the Dresden series. It's freaking awesome.

hehe ... he was in MI on monday, so I made a day trip of it and went and hung out at the store for several hours, got lots of edits done, did some reading, and had tons of fun. once I poke at my roomie with a big enough pointy stick, I'll have video of the Q&A he did in MI, and I can post links if you'd like.

I've read all the Dresden books except the last one ,which is on my bedside since it came out. I can't make myself read it because i know if i read it i'll wan't more and more is next year!! ahah This books are exciting, from the first page to the last one everything that can go bad will go bad. It's a bit depressing to see the poor hero deal with all this crap, but he's really tough and i like his way of thinking. And well who wouldn't like to tell Bob the Skull to shut up sometimes!
Lucky Jocelynn!!

I loved it! Now I'm afraid of starting Changes...that will mean I'll have to wait a whole year for next book. Torture, this is torture.

You know, I still get that shocked, jumpy, choking-on-my-own-tongue feeling every time I finish re-reading Changes, which is about four times now. Dammit, I'm so looking forward to Ghost Story. Oh! And Murphy's story Aftermath in the Side Jobs anthology next month

Again because I happened to sit next to this wonderous person named Jocelynn Drake. [ SIGH!!!]

I can hardly wait for the Ghost Story--Yes I want it good, but where is the damn time warp when you need it, so Jim could get it right and get it to the publishers for the April pub date!?! Fortunately, they are trying not to leave us hanging too much: Chapter One: us.penguingroup.com/static/pages/extras/ghoststory/index.htmlJim about Ghost Story:
