Hello Jocelynn Drake, first off I will say that I am a fan. I've read the first three and they are all very exciting. Nightwalker remains my favorite . . . there is just something about that first novel of yours that inspires me! Especially that last battle, and how Mira dominates so many other characters. I love Mira!!! The main character in my own novel has the element Fire, but cannot do what Mira can, he's different. Although . . . they would make a good pair . . . and a wonderful sparing match! Anyway, my question is this: when you got published, how long did it take for your editor to get a hold of you and begin the process before the release date of your story?

I also should have added: I ask because I have just recently been published, my first novel. It is a small company, very small, but legitimate. And I do not know any other author, but came upon your Dark Room forum, and since you are a published author, I was just wondering how long the process takes before the release date. Thank in advance.

jwbaccaro,
Congrats on the publication! It's always a great accomplishment.
In an effort to keep a long story short: it took about two years of hard work. I finished the book and started querying agents. After two years of being rejected, I received an offer from my current agent. We edited the book over a week or two period, and then my agent sent out copies of my books to various editors. My editor picked me up after three weeks. It was a dream come true as it was the editor that I had been hoping to acquire.
