There's a growing movement among the readers that Tristan may not be worth saving. What are your thoughts?
Is he worth saving? Is there a hidden strength in him that could still come out?
Or has Sadira made him too weak to save?
Is Mira failing to help him grow stronger?

Mira doesn't know what to do with Tristan. It's like her first kid and she's a single mother. I think she will make some mistakes but given time she could shape him into becoming a wonderful nightwalker.
Personally, I think Tristan has gained too much knowledge to be expendable now. If he dies I'd feel like it was a waste of time and effort to keep saving him. Someone needs to pass on what Mira knows for future generations. Since everyone wants her dead her story must be preserved. I think Tristan can serve that purpose well.
With a lot of training and gained trust (over centuries) I think he will be fine enough to handle himself. One has to remember that he has pretty much been a pet most of his "life" and he has been tortured by his own kind. Add the naturi attacking him and being in several near death situations...if that doesn't break a man I don't know what will.
On the other hand, if Mira finally loses it I think Tristan's death could be what will snap her out of her funk and handle her business. It could be the catalyst for the final showdown. <insert The Final Countdown music here> That would be the only circumstances that I'd want to see Tristan offed.
Then again he's not my fav character so it wouldn't affect me that much.

There's no emoticon to express the blanched, appalled type of expression that's now on my face. Of course Tristan is worth saving! How could he not? Sweet, sensitive, loyal... what else can you want. No wait... excluding Danaus that is. And possibly James, he's pretty cute. And maybe Knox...Rowe even? But still, Tristan is amongst my favorites. I reckon Mira would be able to show him the ranks without wasting her time, but he would always be the sensitive shy-like boy sitting in the back row, near the exit. But if he is ever offed, I'd much prefer it if it's because he's being heroic. But still... a near death experience would be perfect

Yeah, i pretty much want him to be eaten. I find him to be a tedious character. I would say the only time I sort of liked him was in book 1 where he went with Mira and Danaus to slaughter some Naturi in the woods. He did pretty good. Not enough for me to get attached or anything. When he survived the attack at the Themis compound I was SHOCKED.
Book two is when I really started to dislike him. That book showed is weakness to the HILT.
As I've said before - I find his abused child demeanor to be off putting. I think he needs to get away from Mira - go OUT into the world and stand on his own too feet. Going from mommy dearest to being a booby prize to makes me ill.
I want Tristian to stop cowering- step it up - grab what he wants, and kill things/people that get in his way. Sweet and sensitive? YUCK!

I like Tristan. I like the devotion that he has shown towards Mira. He's loyal and she can count on him. I do agree that in some aspects Sadira made him weak and Mira needs to teach him how to be stronger. I like the comparison of Tristan being like Mira's firstborn because that is exactly how I see it. She's not sure exactly what to do with him sometimes but she definitely has a soft spot for him. And yes, I do believe there is still hidden strength in him that is just waiting to come out. I hope he sticks around ;-)

I like him. I just feel like all the progress he made in book 2 has been taken away again. I think he'll get back up again in book four. I hope so, anyway - I want to like him, but if he doesn't get himself together I won't be able to help giving up. He needs to work more.

I like Tristan, and the idea of Mira having a "family," but I was really surprised to find him moping around over Sadira at the end of Dawnbreaker. I mean, he did run away from her and beg Mira to help him escape. After the way Sadira handed him over to the Coven, he should be long over her by now. Yes, Sadira kept him weak, but he's shown that he has strength too when he stood with Mira and fought the Naturi. I'd like to see him remain and find his niche.

The boy is loyal even to his tormentors. There is actually a psychological thing were captives eventually begin to sympathize with their captor as a defense mechanism. I really don't see how this is any different from Tristan and Sadira. As bad as Sadira was, she was still his "mother." He'll never forget that. Besides, he hasn't left the nest as long as Mira so he hasn't built up that wall to protect him from feeling.
If anything, it's quite human-like of him.

you know what they say about the dog that's been beaten down. Never back them in a corner. Maybe Tristan will show what he's worth when it really counts.

I really like that thought. I'm not ready to lose hope in Tristan.
