Who's doing it this year? *raises hand*
For those who don't know, NanoWriMo stands for "National Novel Writing Month." It is a writing project where participants have one month (November 1 through November 30) to write 50,000 words of a novel. This will be my third year, and I'm finally going to tackle an idea that I've had rolling around in my head for the past three years.

uhhhhhhhhhhh...with my work schedule...sadly, not gonna happen...juggling two jobs through Black Friday is insane enough without throwing in1600-1700 words a day. I will attempt, but uh, yea... Fairly certain at least one of the roomies and a friend probably will be participating as well.

I have to admit that I've been considering this for 2009. For me, it's a matter of trying to decide on a project to work on. I was leaning toward my Super Secret Special Project during that time frame. However, I've already gotten 15,000 words started on it, and the idea that you're starting a brand new project.
My thought is that I could work on the secret project during October and start Book 6 in the Dark Days series in November.
Hmm... still thinking. I would need to have Book 6 completely plotted out and pitched to my editor before November....
The only concern is that I will probably be working on revisions to Book 5 during November and I've learned that I can't work on two separate books at the same time. Grrr.... I might be out of contention.... darn it.

Well, the point is to try. I think the real goal behind NaNoWriMo, from my experience, is to teach people how to sit down and just WRITE without going back and nitpicking over every word and sentence. It helps people develop a habit of sitting down and writing everyday.
For me, i'm incredibly busy year 'round because of school and so NaNoWriMo is the way I kick start myself back into some sort of a routine, even if it's only for thar one month.
i have managed to recruit more of my friends this year to do NaNoWriMo this year, and I'm hoping to be able to keep up my own blogging, more so as a way for me to chronicle my NaNoWriMo journey as I like to do every year, as well as sharing some tips with friends and hoping that they return the favor lol.

I don't think I'm going to do it this year. I've already got targets for the novel I'm working on - aiming for 1000 words a day on work days, and 2000-3000 on non-work days. I'm hoping to have this finished by the end of November. So, not this year, really.

*shrugs* my roommates and I usually fudge the rules on NaNo just a bit. it doesn't always have to be something new (new project), but they do have to be new words. at least, that's how we play it. works out a little better for little ol' me who usually seems to be in the middle of a novel no matter what when NaNo rolls around. so for my friends and I, the goal is really just to write 50,000 words of new story down. even going so far as to allow multiple shorter stories. see, we fudge the rules but it still works.

I'm going to try to do it this year. It just kind of depends on when my revisions and copyedits for Books 4 and 5 roll in. I would like to start working on one of two projects. I just have to decide on which to work on first.

which ever is offering to play nice first? Or I'm an oddball and actually have a tendency to switch between projects ... write on one while it's flowing good... it stops being coherent, so I switch to something different while I have an idea for that. I try not to do more than 2-3 at a time and just rotate as I can.

Woohoo for being writing buddies! I'm off to hang out with friends and then PARTY- then I'm going to stay up for the midnight write in, and then i'm busy most of tomorrow- this weekend is already off to an awesome start! I should probably share this since I haven't yet, but i have a blog where I catalog my NaNoWriMo journey every year, mostly for myself so that I can look back and see what I did the year before. If anyone is interested, I have posted a series of tips and advice that I received that has worked really well for me in the past when NaNoWriMo-ing. www.thepersonofletters.blogspot.com

No one is allowed to read what you are writing?

no ... it deletes it after the official count is uploaded. it doesn't get saved anywhere ... you can post an excerpt if you like - show people what you're working on.
*sighs* as an update, I didn't get to write yesterday at all, so that nice cushion I had going is gone now and I'm behind. thankfully I had a decent cushion, so I only need to do 2200 tonight to make up for it. want to do about 2500 if I can, just to start building up my cushion again.

You do not actually post your novel itself on NaNoWriMo, but most people do post an excerpt. There is a spot for it on your NaNo author profile. I update my excerpt about once a week, depending on what it is that I have writte nand if there is anything fun that I can post.
Last night I broke 10,000. HOORAY!! The first few days i stuck to roughly 1700 words per night, so I was very strictly following the word count, but that was because of school. Now that I've gotten back into the hang of NaNoWriMo, and now that I am back in my NaNo zone, I'm aiming for somewhere around 2000 to 2500 words per day. We shall see. I already know that this is crap, but I have just learned today that a self publishing website is offering all NaNoWriMo winners a free proof copy of their completed novel. If i can finish writing this, and then get through a rewrite or two before next June (the deadline for the free proof copy) then I am going to def. apply to get one of these free proof copies!
I'm hoping to get to 12,500 by the end of tonight.
