All right, these are my thoughts of Nightwalker, from a nobody called "Seth."
I finished today, and yes I was well pleased, a fantastic, ecstatic read! And I am not attempting to flatter Jocelynn I really, and sincerely enjoyed it.
Reasons why? Well first off, I love the character Mira. She does not only seem beautiful, but a total bad ass of a fighter, and I love female fighters, have a few in my own story in the making.
Poor Mira, all she wanted to do was simply locate Thorne, reform the Triad, and return back to her domain, but she ran into problem after problem, naturi after naturi, only to discover that she is the weapon the triad used and plans to use again, like a puppet--and Mira is so independent so it really pisses her off!
I especially loved the scene when the waitress who killed Thorne, saw Mira being carried away by Danaus, and smiled at her in victory, and then (LMAO) Mira smiles back only to engulf her in a host of flames. Wow was that hot!!
It is interesting how Mira and Danaus continue to draw closer to one another. I really liked the scene when he held her after Rowe had almost taken her, and she thought she was about to die. Danaus cared for her like a lover, as I saw it, and I can only think that is how they may end up. But I could be wrong, only Ms. Drake knows that
Poor Michael, I had a feeling he was going to die, it would have made the story more powerful, and I was right, he did die and it did indeed increase the emotion of the book. That was a sad scene.
I must say, Jocelynn, if you're reading this, you are so AWESOME at action scenes--SERIOUSLY!!! I am envious and have already begun editing yet again my own story. I just love the way you write battle scenes, they are so intense and filled with emotion, I can picture every event in my head. And toward the end, when Mira obliterated the souls of the Naturi, I kind of quivered in fear. That was too strange, and no, it did not make any sense whatsoever. I swear, if I were in Mira's world I would grovel at her feet and proclaim her as Goddess, knowing she has a power like that!
Yet at the same time, she really is not evil, not really, rather, I can sense a good morale within her spirit and cannot wait to read "Dayhunter" next.
I still do not like Jabari. He is cold and bitter, and there were times when I wish Danaus would destroy him, or I imagined my own characters stepping into Mira's world to kill him. He drives me insane! I just want him dead! LOL. Which goes to show you, you have created a good character. He feels very real.
There were a few parts in the book where I found my mind wandering, but no book is 100% perfect. Nonetheless, the majority of Nightwalker kept me on my toes and it has proved to be one of my favorite books.
Return of the King, Wild Seed, Perelandra, and now Nightwalker are the four best stories I have ever read. But again, this is coming from a nobody called "Seth."
Excellent job Jocelynn Drake! *bows before her in respect*
