I'm re-reading Dayhunter, and something occurred to me when Mira was pissed about all the windows in her Venice hotel suite and talking about burning up...
If she controls fire, and fire can't hurt her, can she really burn in the sun? She sleeps when the sun rises, like any other nightwalker so we know it has some effect on her.
But what really happen if she was outside when the sun was up?

This is something that we actually get to see a peek of in "The Dead, the Damned, and the Forgotten" -- the upcoming novella in Unbound.
All nightwalkers burn up in the sun. It's something that doesn't go away with age even though some of the really, really old vampires can be awake in the early morning hours.
If a nightwalker is caught out in the sun, they do NOT burst into flames, they do NOT instantly turn to dust. They simply slowly burn away like a dying ember eating away at a piece of paper; sort of like the slow burn at the end of a cigarette. And since they are unconscious during the sunlight hours, if they are somehow caught in the sun, there is no stopping it.
Just to make sure I don't get called out. Mira is awake early in a couple scenes in Dayhunter. The sun has technically gone down already and she is only seeing the last bits of indirect sunlight. Her eyes are sensitive and she may feel a slight burning to her skin like a sunburn, but it's not enough direct sunlight to affect her.

Sorry Jocelynn your getting called out anyway.Politely.
Why becouse you actually Never say the Sun would destroy Mira. Nor that her becoming a day-walker was impossible.
As you describe it (and description alway important to understand and solve a problem) it's Oxidization like a acid burn or Smoldering (Sounds Very Painful),Which are still both chemically burning no different than normal fire,It's all just Oxidization. So if it's Chemical in nature it would be say like phosphorous reaction to day light that would be be normal fire Chemically no different than Normal fire. But if Mira burns and Nightwalkers in General burns for magical reasons, it sounds like the sun is attacking there soul magic there Bori spirit/blood magic. As it was originally described as Battle between the sun and the moon. It sounds like the Moons tied to Spirit/soul/ blood magic and the Sun to Earth Magic.
So sun destroys Bori creations but nut not Bori them selves. It would have to be the Blood Magic is Built to weaken and break down in day light by the Bori to control there slaves or that there a separate Earth Magic Effect that was a curse from the Naturi to control them ,But there has to be a reason. And has to be one of the three things.
1 science, And if you can stand in fire and not oxidize (burn) You will not burning from a chemical. Some deep sea creature do this. 2 Blood/Spirit/Soul Magic (same thing) 3 Earth Magic
Is there a Fourth I missed?
But Aurora was immuned to blood magic that would of Destroyed her and sucked out her soul becouse she was so full of earth magic there seemed there not any Spirit/Blood magic in her. So it would mean that enough Soul Magic would have the same effect Render you immuned to To direct effects of earth magic.
But if it is a Earth magic effect then if the Nightwalker was just as filled up on Earth Magic as Aurora, would or could a such a Earth effect that attacks Spirit Magic Harm a NightWalker running on so much pure Earth Magic? Would there be anything there it could find to harm?
Would it not be like Aurora so full on Earth that the Bori Magic could not find the little soul magic of Aurora's Soul becouse it did not exist ,it had to. I mean she had to have some Soul magic in her or she would be mindless zombie as that is her soul/mind is (might be damaged and that's why she's crazy but it's there or she be mindless). So it was there just hidden safe By all that raw Earth Power Sheafed like a sword if you will.Shielded from the Bori power in a cocoon of pure Earth Power.
So I would say That enough Raw power of Earth or Spirit would over ride The weakness from what's been established. If it was a magical weakness.
If it was some thing Scientific like a chemical reaction then If Mira was awake she be immuned.
Mira even remembers being awake in the day with burns as a prisoner of the Naturi with no knowledge how or how she survived Guessing they coved her in time but not knowing how she was awake.
Here a theorem as to how that happened derived deductively from the evidence. Mira is First blood keeps here soul in the Day so for her the day sleep is just that sleep maybe very deep sleep but Just that sleep. The Naturi not so gentle with there prisoner exposed her to daylight ( to see what would happen Like us wondering or maybe one of them disagreed with the others and want Fire starter dead) What ever the reason she was exposed to sunlight by some one and Woke up as She started to burn to death, And ether this is a chemical burn and she stopped it with her power or else it's magic and on the power point were she was exposed She filled up with Earth power in desperation for first time and Protected her Blood Magic(that keeps her alive) with pure power of Earth Magic impressing the heck out the Naturi Who cover her so she passed out and the Naturi desiding not to try that trick again. Well there my deduction.

Okay, let's see if I can tap dance through this one. In the rules of the Dark Days Series, unless you've got some special power/gift (and Mira doesn't in this case), all nightwalkers burn up in the sun. For me, I was looking for something less dramatic that an explosion of fire when they enter the sun. I like the image of a slow burning ember like the end of a cigarette. I always looked at as a trade off. You have all these amazing powers, but with that comes consequences or weakness. You can have power, but you are dependent on blood for survival AND you can never be out in the light of the day. I think is also stems back to the idea that the naturi and bori are polar opposites. Naturi are more daylight creatures, while bori are more night creatures, even though they can easily move around during the day. I think the bori are just sneakier in their powers and that sneakiness makes me think of night.
As for fire: fire burns and can destroy ALL nightwalkers. Mira's control of fire is a conscious effort. If for some reason she were knocked unconscious and then set on fire, she would burn. If I am remembering the book correctly, Mira shows Danaus her secret lair in PRAY FOR DAWN. It's a fireproof room. If the house were to burn down during the day, she would burn as well because she would be unconscious.
I hope that helps!
