A Tiny Foreshadowing Hint

I left a tiny foreshadowing hint in Nightwalker and I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on it.

At one of Mira and Danaus's early meetings, he shows her 12 pictures of trees with symbols carved into them? This is going to come up again and again.


Any guesses as to what it means?

It's just my luck that I seemed to have left my copy of Nightwalker at home instead of bringing it here to school with me. Fail.

As of right now, the only guess that I have is the most logical for me- some sort of ritual symbolism perhaps? Maybe to do with how the first seal was created? I can already think of several problems with that theory, but it's all I've got right now.

Once the coffee has kicked in, I'll come back and blather some more about what I think it is, lol. I can't remember, but was there a location mentioned of where these symbols were showing up?
