So, one of the big questions that I left hanging at the end of Nightwalker was Danaus's heritage. The nightwalker hunter has lived for more than one thousand years, can boil a creature's blood, can sense both nightwalkers and naturi, and has superior strength, healing, and senses.
I've gotta know: what do you think he is? I mean, other than sexy. Any thoughts? Speculation? Hopes?

You know, I can't really speculate too much because you've twisted some pretty interesting mythology there, so it'll definitely be interesting to see what he really is.
I'd have to reread, just to make sure (cause I'm not entirely sure if you have any of the Christian God mythology in your stuffs) but he almost sounds like a fallen angel that regrets whatever he did to fall and has been trying to make up for his mistakes.
le sigh ... so much rereading to do before release dates ... so little time.

Danaus first caught my attention by his complexity. When we first meet him he appears to be nothing more than a simple hunter but his persona is layered so intensely! He's one of those characters that is deceitfully simple looking- the more you become involved with him the more you find out that he is a complex 'person'. I can't solidly guess what exactly he is- I'm wondering if he is a classification of people (I hesitate to say humans) that we have not yet been introduced to?

oooh, I had never thought about Danaus being a fallen angel. That's an excellent theory. I just thought he was something completely invented. It makes sense w/ his overwhelming pursuit of "evil". As I was rereading the book for the third time i had a thought that because he's been alive for so long that he possibly might wanted to die? He became obsessed with finding Mira - and even though at first it seemed he was looking for her to "KILL her" the last line of the book he talks about "killing each other as God intended" (best line ever btw). It sort of didn't ring a bell until now. He seems like a sad/tired character. I love Danaus though, he is my favorite character in the book.

see, I'm a bad fan and have only done one read through (really need to do another ... right after I finish the ARC of Turn Coat... and finish rereading a couple Kim books ... maybe a few Kelley books, though I did just read her new Otherworld book, so I might be okay with Kelley ... but they're so good, who could resist ... ... ... no, I don't read a lot. Swear) but I just got that kind of feeling from him. but this little theory hinges on whether or not Joce uses any Christian mythology, and so far, I haven't really seen any overt hints at it.

I finished "Nightwalker" yesterday and I'm sure my theory is a little fragile, but still.. I decided to post it, in spite of all of my concerns;p I'm quite sure Danaus is a part of the bori clan (actually, I think he is a half-breed. he is partly human, but he doesn't really belong to this race). We know so little about it, it would be a shame to leave this group alone Also, there are some nice clues in the book. 1. That's what we know about the bori clan: - they are guardians of ALL souls, IMO even those belonging to the vampires. - about your 'fallen angel' theory: "From the bori, the legends of demons and angels were born." - "But the naturi weren’t the only ones we attempted to erase from history. After humans were created, the old stories stated that the gods created two guardian races to maintain the balance." 2. Danaus: - “Why did you join them? You don’t seem to be the type to fall in with a cult,” I teased, my hand falling away from Tristan. (...) “Because I seek balance,” Danaus said, to my surprise." - (about Charlotte) “What else does she fear?” (Mira) “Losing her soul.” (Danaus) - "Between the weight of Jabari’s powers and the tense strength charging through Danaus, a hand seemed to clench around my soul" (when Danaus "embraced" her - keeper of the soul, remember?) - He did not really say that he was born in Roman Impire. He simply stated that he'd been working for Marcus Aurelius. Well, he could have been few thousands years old back then.
(all quotes are, of course, from the book)

Holy crap! You guys are serious about this. I wasn't expecting quoting from the book. I am truly impressed. Unfortunately, I can't say what he is and it's killing me!!!!!!
Just a few more weeks and then everyone will know....

I know... tee hee.... JK. But seriously, quoting the book offers some interesting insight, I hadn't thought of those points. Can't wait to see if Dayhunter finally sheds some light on what he is.
