Holy CRAP that was intense!! And pretty awesome!
The first thing I noticed about being inside Danaus' head is that he thinks about everything in great detail.
The second thing is CLIFF-HANGER!?
Now I'm on the edge of my seat wishing for the next book.
I'm so glad we got this book from Danaus' POV because he's lived a completely different life than Mira, despite all the similarities of them being immersed in the same supernatural world. We got brief glimpses into his history and his present life; what he does when he's not with Mira. Where he disappears to. What he sees in people when he looks at them, and especially how he see's Mira. I think for me the most interesting part was how he saw Ryan and what he thought about him.

That book was AWESOME! That cliff hanger is making me crazy! A whole month? Torture! Although, thank goodness it's only a month, right? I'd go insane otherwise! I loved being inside his head! Great to finally see how he feels about Mira and his ongoing internal struggle to keep hating her based on misinformation. I am glad that he doesn't trust ryan. I've never taken a liking to him. Assuming that both are leaving Themis, I can't wait to see what Danaus and James do now. James is a were? Wow. Didn't see that one coming. (Also didn't see Lily being so easily dispatched. I thought Danaus and Mira would get a go at normal for a bit. Bummer. . . .) My big question is who and/or what is LaVina?? Even Mira is afraid of her and couldn't escape her grip? Crazy! Hmmm. I kinda wish the next book would bounce back and forth between Danaus and Mira so we could see how Danaus is trying to get to her and what Mira is doing in the meantime. . .. This book was by far my favorite so far!

LaVina is clearly much more familiar with Mira than we realized. I believe she knows what it is that makes Mira so special and different from others.
As for Lily, well it's sort of a nod to how fragile humans truly are compared to the supernatural. Danaus made a promise to protect Lily and keep her alive, but how do you protect someone from something that is so much stronger than you, something that can control you? Mira is such a strong character but this bori was able to worm itself into her head and control her.
Also, Ryan's blood...that was really interesting. I wonder who suggested that, Ryan or Mira.

Wait for Dusk is less than 27 days away and counting. It's getting close and there will be a snippet released soon. HOWEVER, I am not going to post the first chapter as usual since that will immediately give away what happened to Mira and information about LaVina. I'm keeping my secrets as long as possible.
Yes, there is a bit of a cliffhanger, but I was told I could have one since the two books were being released so close together.
Danaus was an amazing amount of fun to write. I was concerned about getting a "man's voice" correct since I am female and don't have firsthand knowledge of what is going on in a man's head. So far, no major complaints.
As for Ryan's blood.... yeah, the suggestion was his. He's an evil bastard.

Argh! Ryan! I want Ryan ousted from Themis (preferably by violent means) and replaced by James! About the nod to human fraility, I think it also showed how powerful Gaizka was. He killed a lot of people, nightwalkers and naturi along the way. Poor humans: old fat guy, random guy who thought Gaizka was his dead mom, Emma Rose (very sad too!) and Lily are the only ones i can remember right now. He killed all of them without much of a problem. So if/when the Bori get out there is going to be some crazy crazy battles to be fought! What happened to Gabriel and Matsui!? Tristan may have done something awful to them because of that damn Gaizka! Seemed like such a good idea at the time for Tristan to go with them. Hindsight is 20/20, yea? At least the first chapter will reveal a bit about Mira and LaVina and we won't be stuck with "what's going on!?!?!?!" for too long. lol Wonder if Danaus will ever let Mira drink from him? Can nightwalkers drink blood of Bori hosts? When they had their first kiss *happy sigh* Danaus cut his tongue on her fangs, but she didn't seem to react to it at all. Perhaps she didn't get any blood in her own mouth?

I haven't really thought about this until you mentioned Gaizka, but I'm surprised at how much Danaus holds back from Mira. I guess working alone for centuries sort of rubs off on you? You would expect that a bori showing up in Mira's territory is something that she would really need to know, regardless of how much it has to do with the ah issues they are trying to solve.

I think Danaus was just trying to see if he could take care of it on his own. Stubborness and years of working alone will definitely do that to someone. Mira doesn't necessarily tell Danaus everything either. She kept brushing off the hallucinations and hiding the fact she was drinking from Ryan. They have only known each other 1/2 a year. They'll do better with time and the closer they get

I have just finished reading Pray for Dawn and I have to say that I really hate Ryan right now. There is probably nothing he could do in the next two books to make me like him again or make me happy. Oh wait there is one thing.......he could DIE !
Other than that the book was amazing! I actually could not put it down once. And I read it faster than the books from Mira's point of view. Not that those books weren't great but I guess it was just nice to switch up the point of view and get inside Danaus's head a little bit. It’s nice to see Mira through his eyes. I don't know if it’s just me but she seemed like a different person almost...happier I guess.
It was also nice to see their relationship progressing, especially when Danaus went to the First Communion. I feel like it was about time he realized that he is not human and that vampires weren't entirely evil. It was sad when Lily died, because she finally had a home with Mira, Tristan, and Danaus and she was happy.
I definitely did not see it coming when it was revealed that James was a werewolf. I always thought that he was an innocent fragile being, so it’s good that he has some sort of vicious side to him, though I think he should just embrace his heritage instead of fearing it.
I don't know about anyone else and i know he is suppose to be the bad guy and hated by everyone but I love Gaizka ! I like how he just takes control of people and he does it without a care in the world. I love how he just appears and scares the hell out of people and loves every second of it. I love how he is always trying to get Danaus to do what he wants and give up his soul. I especially love his power too ! The bori's are so cool ! If I had to choose between the bori and the naturi, i would be on the bori's side. I don't know Gaizka just........interests me
Jocelynn another great job! This book was fantastic. Out of the four of them this book is definitely my favorite. I wouldn't mind reading another book from Danaus's point of view either.

Thanks. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the book. Gaizka is definitely a handful to deal with and the bori are a struggle to write because they are so hard to beat.

Whew! Finished Pray for Dawn TODAY! I'm in Alabama now, got in Wednesday afternoon, and yes I did go to the bookstore BEFORE I saw my mother. Worst daughter EVER! lmao
I LOVED IT. I really enjoyed being in Danaus' head. He broke my heart with his thoughts. I think the one about the french woman (I don't have the book near me), the one with the green eyes, was my favorite (also hardest) to read. Any kind of glimpse into his past was heart wrenching. I wanted MORE! I wanted to hear more about his past 1800 years. Someone living that long and having gone through so many generations, friends and/or lovers dying. So sad.
I can dig a cliffhanger since the next book is coming out soon. I can't believe Lily died! Aw, come on! Why'd that have to happen? Mira was so happy to have her, they were making plans for "holidays" when she would come to visit. *pout*
Oh, and I haven't had a chance to post much, but I loved all the little short stores, w/ mira and danaus - the counselor one was so good. I also loved Danaus' "interview".
Anyway, I an eager for Wait for Dusk now.

Great book! Loved CHAPTER 28 I absolutely enjoy every Mira and Danaus book. I can never pick one up and say "I'm only going to read this much of it" once I start I have to finish it. Before reading PfD I reread Dawnbreaker and just went straight into the next and couldn't just couldn't stop. The change in POV was definitely strange at first, but so refreshing to see Danaus from inside his head. In Mira's eyes he always seems so cool and collected, so much the stronghold or impenetrable fortress, but from inside his head we see how vulnerable he is. We get to see his doubts about his own strength and powers. I just loved seeing his internal struggle regarding his feelings for her. It was nice to see that Mira wasnt completely off in thinking he still wanted her heart on a pike (LOL) but it's great to see that he actually does care for her. Mira was so unlike herself in this book. I guess it took sleep and food deprivation to get her to manifest her desire for the Hunter. She was so hands on in this book, always craving to touch him. Just loved how she kept invading his mind too, something she normally would avoid. I think Danaus believed it was his efforts alone that kept her out of his mind, but he learned differently in this book. LOL! I did NOT see the whole James thing coming at all, and let's not forget Tristan's recently unveiled power. Ryan is a sexy bastard and I hope Danaus kicks his ass in the next book. The mystery that is Mira is driving me nuts. I have my speculations, and I can't wait to see if I'm right. Even the Bori can't figure her out, but I'm still waiting to see if we are going to hear from Michael again. And just WHAT is LaVina? Danaus should have heeded Lily's warning about her. And gotta say it "poor Lily"

I was never sure I would get around to the James transformation point in the series. (There's always so much that I want to do and not enough pages.) I dropped the hint in Nightwalker that he was a shifter when I gave him copper-tinted eyes that Mira remarks on.
Yes, Poor Lily. It just wasn't supposed to go that way, but sometimes people have to die in a book.
But my question is:
What/Who is LaVina? Any speculation?
Where is Mira?
I'd love to hear some ideas.

Hmm... I'm going to take a guess and say LaVina is working for the coven? I know WfD is set partly in Venice, and partly about her taking her place as Elder? And LaVina's words 'time for this wayward child to come home,' made me think of Mira's mysterious heritage, but now I'm thinking it's the coven's work. What LaVina is? No, I haven't a clue except a really powerful witch

But my question is: What/Who is LaVina? Any speculation? Where is Mira? I'd love to hear some ideas. I'm not sure what LaVina is. No aura? or was she just masking as Danaus first thought? I did think that she was somehow related to Mira's mysterious origins, being that we dont know what she is either; but I also thought maybe she was just Jabari in disguise taking Mira back to the Coven, but then Jabari cant do earth magic and the "witch" had all that earth in her basement. Who knows? I'm kind of stumped on that one and now I'm just rambling. I'm going to have to think more on this one.

I know this is totally left field, but I'm going to throw out something a little different as to what LaVina is. And I got my idea from reading the deleated scenes on JD.com. I think LaVina is either a Ghoul or a Zombie, because it seems like you have to have a soul in order to cast an aura, and since LaVina is minus an aura, maybe she minus true life. Also voodoo practices have always conformed to the beliefs of raising the dead. As for what Mira is... I'd can say what I think she's not, and that would definitely be naturi nor bori. My reasons are that Rowe met Mira when she was "human" and if she was naturi he would have scensed it. As it goes he could scense "otherness" from Mira which leads me to believe that she wasn't born %100 human. If she was Bori Danaus would have scenced that, as well as the Triad when they made her. She would have been executed if she was a Bori. Definitely not a shifter so that leave something that we have not been introduced to yet. I really hope Jocelynn will comment as to if I close or not. That's it for my theories.
