I'm going to try to catch the 745 showing tonight -- as long as it doesn't snow any more. I'll report back later.

I saw Daybreakers last night and I thought it was awesome. It was nice to see dark, neck-biting, mean vampires again. Actually, they weren't heavy on the traditional vampire side, but more of the dark side of humanity, which I also find appealing in a story. It was a very interesting twist on the idea of vampires and what would happen to society. It gave me some interesting food for thought for the Dark Days series.
It was also nice to see Ethan Hawke in a movie. I hadn't watched one of his movies in years. And Willem Dafoe is always cool.

Okay - I saw it last night too. I agree with many of your points Jocelynn. I enjoyed the darkness too. The whole "story" was really good. I have to admitt, unfortunately, I'm a bit squeamish and found the gore too much. I am NOT a fan of gore. It's why I don't watch many horror movies, I prefer "scary" movies. The last part - with the soldiers....omg - I thought I was going to throw up! lol
Other than the over abundance of gore it was a truely excellent movie. I too enjoyed seeing Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe. At first when I saw Dafoe's name in the credits I did start to groan - but he did a great job.
I hope they make more vampire movies. Hopefully this one will do well in the theatres and we'll have something more interesting vampire movies other than the twilight films.
On a side note. I actually went by myself to the movies - it's nice and relaxing actually. Anyway, most of the people who were in the theatre were MEN...where did all the women go? tsk tsk....

I must have a weak stomach. I think I was cringing alot, there was alot of eye closing, and possibly head hiding. Yeah....I do believe there was some of that. Watching his brother at the end - I was devastated. Broke my heart.

yea ... that bit was sad ... but I like some good gore, but half the time it's so overdone that it's completely unbelievable ... I mean come on, did you see that head flying across the background ... or the couple of limbs for that matter ... I freaking LOVED it ... but it was so not real that I just started laughing out loud.

Yeah, the gore seemed a little excessive that it was more humorous than scary to me. I guess I go with the "less is more" theory when I'm watching movies. **Such theories do not apply to my own writing**

writing for some reason is different ... a character watching someone be torn apart and having blood splatter onto their faces (when done properly) is much more disturbing than when it's done in a movie ... the movie just usually makes me laugh ... I've become so desensitized to it, it's not even funny.

Oh, I agree it wasn't scary - just gross. I have a weak stomach and I do have a big thing about watching people getting killed. I don't mind reading about it but watching it is hard for me. When I read about violence it's more glossed over in my mind - watching the blood spurt and the heads being ripped off just distresses me. I'm a softie..what can I say? I have yet to be desensitized by these things. Well, and I don't normally go out to watch true horror movies - no Halloween movies, no Nightmare on Elmstreet, no Saw movies, no "teens go out in the woods to have sex and then get stabbed repeatedly". CAN'T watch it. *shudder* Thus the head hiding and cringing!
Reading is easier for my mental well being. Which technically isn't really all that WELL, but you get the idea. heh
Overall the movie was really well done. It was much better than the movie 30 days of Night. I really wish Guillermo del Toro would make a vampire movie.

well, considering he's writing a vampire BOOK, there may be hope yet of him doing a movie ... we'll really, he's working with some other guy to do a Trilogy ... the first one, The Strain is already out. and there is a book trailer for it that looks amazing ... I just haven't had time to read it yet.

Yeah, i've heard of the strain, I just haven't had a chance to read it either. He did a "vampire" movie YEARS ago called Cronos - but not what I would call a real vampire movie. I want something more akin to PANS LABYRINTH - dark but beautiful and gothic. I loved his underworld in Hellboy 2 (even though Hellboy is a retarded character). He's got a great imagination and I would love to see that translated into a gothic (not too gory) vampire movie.
