Congrats! That's awesome. Good luck.
I have re-outlined all the chapters of book 5, added notes for 5 new chapters, and finished line edits for the first two chapters. Trying to get up the energy to do one more chapter tonight.

*checks calendar* wow ... I'm bombing NaNo .... in a week, I've written a little under 2K. so I know stand at 30K. and work is about to implode and become an utter madhouse in just a few short days, so I really don't think I'll be hitting 50K, but I'm still gonna try to get some writing in here and there.
Freedom, congrats on 40K
Joce, way to go on the outlines ... keep up the good work.

Thanks guys I am now at just over 47,000 words. I am traveling again tomorrow but I am hoping that I will have energy after the 6 hour drive to make it past 50,000 so I can upload and get my 'winner' ribbon. Then I'm going to write until i finish this damn story and then take a month off or something, then plot the novel again and rewrite the whole thing all over again. Yep, I am just a tad bit ambitious.

GUESS WHO JUST CROSSED THE FINISH LINE?!! This is my first official win- the only other time I won, I forgot to validate my novel and I only got halfway last year. SO EXCITED! Tally is 50,280 words. my novel is definitely not done yet, but at least I've passed the nanowrimo goal!

Oh, cool! congrats. I think the whole thing was very interesting and applaud everyone who participated. This contest has facinated me from the beginning.
So, when you finally finish your novel what do you do then? Will you try to publish or is this strictly for your own amusement (an excercise in discipline)?

depends on the person ... some do it just for fun ... others will spend a few months finishing and polishing and then try to submit. hell, like Jocelynn, even some "professional" authors use NaNo as a way to get that word count on a book when they need to. *laughs* I had like maybe 2 people out of my 5 "buddies" were people I knew ... the rest were authors.

I was mainly curious as to what everyone elses motivations were. It's a very interesting exercise for sure. I'm thinking of using it as a teaching tool when my kids are old enough.

Thanks guys!! I've never seriously considered publishing but the past two years or so, Create Space has offered free proof copies to all NaNoWriMo winners. But I AM seriously going to finish this novel by the end of the year (cross fingers) so that I can start afresh by replotting in the new year and hopefully will be able to rewrite the thing as the storyline has changed somewhat. I do know that some authors do end up publishing nanowrimo novels, which is pretty cool.

Double posting, sorry. I haven't had a chance to work on my nanowrimo project AT ALL since NaNoWriMo ended because this week is FINALS WEEK. But I'm definitely hoping to get some writing in next week when I go home for break.
