I am currently attempting to think of a title for the first book in the new series and I could really use your help.
The first book in the series is about a tattoo artist named Gage who gets in trouble when he tattoos a dying girl with angel wings and ends up making her immortal. Now he's scrambling to fix his mistake before the Grim Reaper kills him while trying to help out his friends and co-workers, Trixie and Bronx, without getting killed by his former warlock mentor Simon. Yeah, Gage is in a lot of trouble, but somehow he manages to keep his sense of humor through it all.
The original title I used was "Angel Wings". The feedback I received from my publisher was they liked "Angel" but not "Wings" because it sounded too soft.
I think they want something hard, dark, gritty, crunchy, and dirty (dirty as in dirt, not dirty as in naughty). Not cute. Not soft. Not light.
I will also happily accept suggestions for a series title. I was originally leaning toward something with "Asylum" in the name because that is the name of the tattoo parlor that Gage owns. But I am completely open to suggestions without it.
Keywords that might help but don't need to be in either title: Gage: main character/narrator/tattoo artist/former warlock-in-training Trixie: main secondary character/tattoo artist/works at Asylum Bronx: main secondary character/tattoo artist/works at Asylum Asylum: Gage's tattoo parlor Low Town: city where the series is centered
I will take any and all suggestions. If my publisher selects a suggestion that you made, I can't promise an ARC (since I rarely get any), but I can try to get you an advance copy of one of the upcoming short stories.
THANKS!!!

Just spit-balling here, but how about The Needle Asylum for the series title. Then you could do something with the word needles or sewing in your titles. I'm thinking, maybe, "On Pins and Needles" for this books title.
Maybe.......

I like it susan60625. The Needle Asylum sounds good as a series title. Or.... Q for JD? Does the "immortal made" play an occurring role in the series or just this one? If so how about "Immortal Ink" as a series title and "Angels Asylum" as the book title. But if its not, maybe "Clipped Wings" for the book title and "Ink Asylum" as a series title?

I really like both of those suggestions! I was thinking about The Prick of a Needle as the title and the Inky Asylum for the series title...

Angel Ink is the only title suggestion I have right now. As for a series title, I feel like just Asylum will be confusing- people might think it has to do with an actual asylum. I like Mhub's suggestion of Immortal Ink.

Hello,
Unfortunately I do not know where exactly I should write purely my question, why I'm doing just to talk and hope I still get a response.
I just discovered the book series, so I'm just at Dayhunter. Come to the book Dawnbreaker because one or more, the series finished with this book?

Actually the last book in the series is Burn the Night. The reading order is: Nightwalker Dayhunter Dawnbreaker Pray for Dawn Wait for Dusk Burn the Night
Thanks! Jocelynn

Oh cool, new series. When is it coming out? Is it set in the same world, or a different one?
As for names...what about...Angelic Asylum?
Asylum's double meaning is good for this. Gage gave her asylum from death via the angel wing tattoo.
It flows a bit better than Angel's Asylum, I think.
Perhaps Death's Asylum, Immortal Ink, or Death's Wings?
I dunno.
Out of the names I suggested, Immortal Ink seems more like a series title, but since I don't know what you plan for the series, I can't be sure it would fit.
On a completely unrelated note...I just finished Burn the Night about five minutes ago. I read the short story/prequel in Unbound and couldn't resist buying the whole series. I enjoyed it immensely. You have awesome characters. I enjoyed all of the books, and the end of the series was nicely written. It's rare to find a good end to a good series, because our expectations are high...but I quite enjoyed it. I was a bit sad that the series was over, though. However, I'm glad to know you'll be starting a new series. Good luck with it, though you probably don't need it. I'll be buying it when it comes out.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like we have a new series title and a book title. I am waiting for my editor to give the OK to announce it.
Peggy: Thanks! The new series is set in a totally new world so there will be no overlap with the Dark Days series. So far, there are two novellas and two novels to be released. I don't have any dates yet, but they will start coming out in 2012. I'm glad you liked the series. I do have one more Dark Days novella coming out and it is a prequel to the series focusing on Mira and Valerio.

*resurfaces to name some stuff*
Could do the series name as Low Town Asylum Tales, which could then be shortened to LTAT (pronounced "elle-tat", further bringing in the tattoo aspect of it). But that could just be me being silly.
As for the book title, since Death is a character, maybe "Death's Angel" or something along those lines.
Alternately,
- Angel Affliction - Gage Misfortune (a play on his name, since Gage can be both a name and "gage a reaction")
Bah ... I've been floating on other people's creativity for too long. I'm getting rusty. I do like "Clipped Wings" though.

Thanks for the suggestions. My editor has finally decided on some names and we are just waiting for sales/marketing to approve.
The series title, however, is The Asylum Tales.
More coming soon!

*grins* I was close. And it can still be shortened down into TAT.

Cool. TAT. Hadn't thought of that.

*grins* That's what I randomly pop up from time to time for.
Do we have any kind of release date yet, or is it still a "some time in the future"? (I have sadly been completely out of touch with pretty much all things book since Borders closed.)
