NaNoWriMo turned out to be a bust for me as I completed fewer than 20,000 words. If you combine the two projects that I was working on, then I'm ove 30,000 but still short of the goal. I think I've learned that November is just bad timing for my schedule as I usually have book to edit at that time. Bummer

Bummer personally, I think Nano CAN be beneficial, but it can also put you under so much pressure, it's just too much.... And I can totally see how November might be a bad month for many people, especially if you have to work on editing another story....

NaNo is good and bad. There's such a huge amount of pressure to get to that 50000, that people forget that it's not just about that. It's about writing in general. Getting people to sit down at their computers or with a notebook and making themselves write. Because every word they write closer to 50K is another word that they wouldn't have written otherwise.
I think the real problem with NaNo is that it really only encourages people to get to 50K and not to actually FINISH the project, cause 50K a novel does not make. Some people joke that Dec is National Novel Finishing Month, but it's not official, not endorsed, and almost no one does it. So there are literally millions of half finished novels just sitting out there and no one ever takes a piece that they started the previous year and try to get another 50K on it the next year, cause there's so much hype on it being a NEW novel.
*shrugs* that being said, even with my crazy insane work schedule (w00t 2 retail jobs during holidays) I still managed to eke out 50K in Nov. Though, this month has been so much more insane, I don't think I've written even a cumulative thousand yet. maybe, but I don't think so.

I didn't get to do it this year First time since I first started 4 years ago that I haven't been able to participate!!! Who knew school and graduate school applications could take up so much time?! I'm considering having my OWN version of NaNoWriMo in January or February. Would anyone be interested in a less formal write-along?

I doubt I'll have time for it in Jan/Feb, but it sounds like a cool idea!

Jan might still be a little hectic for me with tearing down a temporary store and all, but Feb is usually stone dead for me. And it'd be great motivation to get the ending on a couple books finished and maybe ever finish a third that's only halfway done.

Well why don't we revisit this idea around mid-January, and see if Feb is a viable option? Just keep in mind that Feb is a couple days shorter than November.

well, yea, but if you take weekends off, even in Feb, that's only 2500 words 5 days a week. Even writing every day, Feb only requires 1786 words. That really isn't that bad. Most people that I know do easily 2-3000 every day in their writing. I just need to have time where I'm not all work work work work work WORK all the time because then, making myself sit down and write seems even harder. which is why this time of year sucks for me.

I can't believe it, but it's nearly that time of year again! Amazingly, things are going to line up nicely this year to let me participate. As long as I can keep on my current schedule, I will be working on the second novel in the Tattoo Artist series during November. I am hoping to have the rough draft done before the end of the year to give me well over a month to work on the revisions. It will be one of the fastest books I've written, but I think I can do it. So are you going to join me in the November-long writing marathon? For more information go to www.nanowrimo.orgI think it's time to start thinking and making those writing plans.

I hope I will be able to, but by then, I may be working 3 jobs and I'll be lucky if I'm conscious for any periods of time when I'm not at work. But I'll definitely be cheering people on and if I do manage to get any writing done, I'll make sure I keep track of everything.

Good luck with the potential 3 jobs. I know how hard it is in this economy.

Well, it wouldn't be so bad if the one job would actually give me some hours. but I've been there for a month and I've worked 3 hours. Not exactly what I'd call effective. So now I have to go pick up a 3rd shift job. Not a happy camper about that. But I am still trying to write here and there.
